Been thinking about how a bunch of empowering female artists wrote songs earlier in their careers encouraging girl on girl hate (like Hayley Williams, Kate Nash, Taylor Swift, and the list goes on). Often the lyrics had something to do with “stealing a guy” and later in their careers many of these women apologized and explained that they were at a point in their life (often their early teenage years) when they thought it was possible for someone to “steal” someone, etc. It’s so hard to navigate a world where women are taught to hate each other and tear each other down and it sucks that women are also susceptible to internalizing misogyny! Though I expect to make mistakes, I’m lucky that I started releasing music at a later age so as not to receive that type of criticism - but, I really hope that we can all try to support all women a little bit more and not push people away for being less educated!! It seems like each famous woman has to be the PERFECT representative of feminism or they’ll be shunned, whereas men are free to just be artists. Let’s support each other!!! 🤝 ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿💐
